What are the hours of in-person operation in the Admission office?

How many people can I bring with me to an admission appointment?

  • Due to space limitations and COVID social distancing protocols, we ask that you bring no more than one guest with you to your appointment. If you need to bring more than one guest, please let us know so we can make arrangements for a larger meeting space.

Are campus tours being offered?

  • At this time, guided campus tours are not being offered, however we are happy to provide you with a campus map and direct you to any areas that you are interested in seeing in a self-guided tour. You can also see our campus through our Virtual Tour video.

Are there computers on campus that I can use to apply for admission and financial aid?

  • Yes! In suite 1740, two computers are available for completing admission applications, the FAFSA, and scholarship applications. Other computers are also available to students in our Cyber Cafes on Student Street.

Virtual Advising and Limited In-Person Appointments

The Office of Advising, Transitions, and Student Success is available to answer general questions about academic advising. Email and voicemail are checked throughout the day and messages will be responded to within one to two business days. Include your name and Oakton ID Number (B#) in any communications.

Academic advisors are meeting with students virtually and on campus (in-person) during the fall 2021 semester. Current students are encouraged to self-schedule either a virtual or on campus (in-person) academic appointment via StudentsFirst, found in MyOakton-see instructions below. Students may also contact the Enrollment Center, 847.635.1700, for scheduling assistance. All incoming students should visit their new student portal for tailored information.

Thirty-minute appointments will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (virtual*) and Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (in person). Some appointments may be made outside of these hours based on advisor availability.

Schedule your Academic Advising Appointment:

If you are a new student, check your 'New Student Profile' to ensure you have completed all required steps to request to meet with an Oakton advisor, and to register for your first semester.

If you are currently enrolled or attended previously Oakton, schedule your virtual or on campus (in-person) appointment by following these steps:

  • Log into myOakton, select 'Student Profile' to identify your assigned advisor
  • Once you've identified your assigned advisor, return to the "Home" tab and select "StudentsFirst."
  • Click 'Get Advising' and select 'Academic Advisor' as the service category
  • Select the reason for your appointment as 'General Academic Advising'
  • Select one of the appointment locations listed: Virtual, Skokie On Campus, or Des Plaines On campus. Please note: If a particular office location is not listed, that is because there is no availability for that location. Select a different location to continue.
  • Find and select the Advisor for the appointment
    Not sure who your advisor is? In myOakton, select 'Student Profile', and scroll down your student profile until you see 'Advisor.'
  • Select an appointment date/time
  • Optional: Add comments for your advisor, including your preferred contact number as an alternative contact
  • Click 'Confirm Appointment'

In addition to your automatic confirmation email, you will receive a follow-up/post-appointment email from your advisor. Before a virtual appointment, you will receive a Google Calendar invitation with both video and voice (only) options to connect to the appointment.

Note: If you are in the TRIO program, are a student-athlete, or you are in a health career or nursing program, email your program-specific advisor to schedule an appointment.

Athletics, Student Athlete Advising, and Fitness Center

The Oakton Owl Athletics Department is available all spring, summer and fall for virtual and in-person appointments. Our coaches are actively recruiting student athletes for the 2021-2022 seasons.

Health Services

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • If I'm on campus and start feeling ill, can I “walk in” at the Wellness?
    • Yes, but if at all possible, please call the Wellness Center before you arrive. This will allow health staff to prepare a quarantine space as we will take every precaution to keep students and staff safe.
  • Information regarding COVID-19 and health and wellness. Nurses are available for wellness education appointments by phone or virtual meetings.
  • Information on community resources for HIV/STD testing, birth control, LGBTQ, pregnancy, assistance in obtaining health insurance, and medical care for those without health insurance.
  • Consultation and clearance for health career students regarding medical requirements.
  • Health Services is not able to provide medical care/consultation via telehealth or phone. Those who are feeling ill should contact their health care provider or call 911 in the case of a medical emergency.

Enrollment Services assists students with general questions about processes related to Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, and Records including prerequisites, class overrides, holds, online registration, payment options, FAFSA process and verification, proof of residency, student record changes, application issues, and steps for new student enrollment/orientation.

What circulation and interlibrary loan services will be available in fall 2021?

  • A wide range of face-to-face and online services will be available for students, faculty, and staff.

How do I request an official Oakton academic transcript?

  • Oakton transcripts may be requested at Transcripts Plus. There is an option to have an electronic academic transcript securely emailed to another college, university, or personal email address. Electronic academic transcripts are recommended.

Student Conduct and Title IX

Student Conduct and Title IX is available for virtual appointments, consultations, and hearings via Google Meets by scheduling with Rob Peterson, Student Conduct Manager and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

In-person appointments will be conducted case-by-case at either Des Plaines or Skokie with the pre-approval of the Student Conduct Manager and based on conference room availability.

Will the Office of Student Life and Campus Inclusion hold student activities and events during the fall semester?

  • Yes! Student Life and Campus Inclusion is planning to host special events in a (mostly) virtual format. Campus wide initiatives such as Fall Fest, Halloween, etc. will be held in a hybrid format with limited opportunities for in-person engagement, and in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.

Will the Caring Closet be open in the fall semester?

  • Yes! The Caring Closet will be open for service beginning mid-late August. The process for the Caring Closet is already in alignment with COVID safety guidelines and will not result in any major changes.

Are Student clubs/organizations permitted to host meetings and special events?

  • Students are encouraged to host virtual meetings and special events. At this time, there will be limited hybrid opportunities, however, students will be required to go through an extensive room assignment process. Students should be aware that meeting and special event space will be limited and a lack of available space may result in disapproval of an event request.

Will the Student Center be open as a gathering space?

  • Yes! The Student Center will be open but will operate under a decreased capacity and with limited seating space.

How do I meet with Student Life and Campus Inclusion staff?

  • Virtual appointments are available as a primary meeting option. In-person appointments will be limited and in alignment with local, state, and federal COVID guidelines.

Testing Center

Placement: Reading, Writing, and Math

Meeting placement requirements at Oakton can be completed in multiple ways. For more information see Placement at Oakton. If you are not sure you need to take a placement test, log into the new student portal to view your admission checklist. You can also consult with the Enrollment Center about your placement options at enrollmentcenter@oakton.edu.

Placement tests can be taken remotely or on campus.

Remote Testing: Complete a Placement Testing Request form. The form and more information can be found on the Testing Center page for new students.

On-campus Testing: If you would prefer to take the placement tests on campus, appointments are requested. Below are links to sign up. After you select the date and time, hit the button to confirm. In the comment section, please let us know which test(s) you need to take. An automated confirmation will be sent which will include on-campus testing details.

Subject-Based Tutoring: The Learning Center provides two types of free tutoring services: in-person and remote tutoring. Ask a Math or Science Tutor: Submit your question and a tutor will respond within 48 hours (not including weekends).This asynchronous service is ideal for students who only have a question or two about their assignment and don’t need a whole tutoring session. Please note, our tutors aim to help you complete a problem on your own. They will not complete homework or assignment problems for you, check answers, assist with take-home quizzes/exams, or repeat class lectures.

Writing tutoring: This by-appointment service offers students the opportunity to receive academic support for a personal statement, scholarship essay, or any graded assignment at the College regardless of the discipline. Academic Coaching: Academic Coaching is the one-on-one process of helping students explore academic concerns and identify resources to support academic success. Learning specialists provide support, assess the student's strengths and needs, and devise a personalized plan of action in the following areas: time management, procrastination, test preparation, and note-taking, among others. Start by contacting a learning specialist.

Academic Success Workshops: The Academic Success and Beyond Workshop Series is a joint effort between the Learning Center and the TRIO Student Support Services. The Academic Success and Beyond Series offer students the opportunity to develop strategies to be successful in College.
