Des Plaines, Ill. (June 15, 2026) - The City of Des Plaines is ready to light up the summer sky Sunday, June 28, as its annual fireworks celebration returns to Oakton College. The free celebration invites the entire community to gather for a lively night of music, activities and a fireworks show to remember.
Held at the College’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Rd., the event will feature a live DJ performance, yard games, and much more to get the night started. An illuminating fireworks display will begin at dusk, featuring a special extended finale in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Gates open at 7 p.m., giving attendees time to find a spot on campus and enjoy the festivities before the fireworks take over the sky at approximately 9:15 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the evening, and food trucks from local businesses will be available throughout the event, offering a variety of food options.
In addition, Oakton’s Center for Veteran Transition and Support will provide free food to veterans and their families beginning at 7 p.m. Food will be available while supplies last at the Center’s table on the Lee Center patio.
Entry to the College will be available only from Golf Road, with accessible parking located in Lot A.
The event is weather-dependent. Updates will be shared through the City of Des Plaines Facebook page.
