Office of Academic Affairs

The Office of Academic Affairs, through its work overseeing all courses and programs at Oakton, ensures that you get real value for your time at Oakton. The Office ensures Oakton's academics deliver on the mission and values of the College, bringing quality, equity and opportunity to our students.

The Office is responsible for degree and credit certificate programs, as well as the general education courses required for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution. It's also responsible for the adult and continuing education courses offered for workforce development and lifelong learning.

The Office of Academic Affairs is made up of the following areas and teams:

Continuing Education and Workforce Development

To expand our educational services and bring our promise of quality, equitable education to even more deserving learners, Oakton has formed the Alliance for Lifelong Learning (ALL).

Division of Business and Career Technologies

The departments and programs of the Division of Business and Career Technologies help to prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university, enter the workforce, or advance to higher-level employment. You'll have the opportunity to learn more than the basics of your field. In small classes, you'll work directly with first-rate professors—not teaching assistants—who bring real-world experience to the classroom, combining the latest theories and best practices with the kind of personal attention you need to thrive.

Division of Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts encompass areas of learning that cultivate our broad intellectual abilities rather than technical or professional skills. Oakton’s Division of Liberal Arts includes the departments of Art and Design, Behavioral and Social Sciences, English, Historical and Policy Studies, Humanities and Philosophy, Modern Languages, and the Performing Arts. This division encourages the exploration of human behavior and creativity through programs and departments that lead to associate degrees, certificates, and personal enrichment. In the program you choose, you’ll hone your analytical skills, engage in critical inquiry and prepare to take your next step.

Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Health Careers

In today's fast-changing world, careers in science, technology, engineering, math and health care are hotter than ever. Whether you're interested in computers, manufacturing, electronics, or any of our degree and certificate programs, you'll expand your options and engage your talents. Our programs run the gamut from manufacturing and nanotechnology to nursing and phlebotomy. Some programs lead directly to certificates and a quick entry into the workforce, while others provide excellent preparation for transferring to a four-year college.

Early College

Do you want to get started on your college career while you're still in high school? Do you want to experience a new level of academic rigor or build your confidence in pursuing a college education? Maybe you're looking to save money and time by gaining high school and college credit at the same time. Whatever your reasons for considering Early College at Oakton, we are here to help you get ahead. Online Learning

Koehnline Museum

The Koehnline Museum of Art is committed to establishing and encouraging an exciting environment for art accessible to everyone. Its programs and exhibits are designed for students, college employees and members of the greater Chicago community.

Grants and Alternative Funding

At Oakton, we understand that affordable, quality education is a game-changer. We also know that you are unique and your goals are important, so our dedication to providing accessible and equitable education extends beyond the classroom.

Internships

As part of our commitment to your success and ensuring you get real value from your time with us, Oakton's Career and Transfer Center (CTC) offers a variety of resources and services to prepare you for a meaningful career.

The Office ensures that all courses meet Oakton's academic standards and effectively prepare students to achieve their goals. It also oversees our Online Learning division to ensure that remote students are able to access the same high-quality courses as Oakton's in-person students, expanding access to education to those who may not otherwise be able to take classes on Oakton's campuses.

In addition, the Office works with the Library and the Koehnline Museum to help students access the resources needed to succeed. We oversee internships and work-study programs to help interested students get real-world experience that will give them an edge in their job searches and careers, and we find institutional grants that may include student funding.
