Electronics and Computer Technology

Do you enjoy technical problem-solving? Do you like taking a hands-on approach to solving problems? Are you interested in how electronic and computing devices work? The Electronics and Computer Technology Program at Oakton provides knowledge of emerging technologies and gives you the hands-on skills to analyze, troubleshoot, install, configure and maintain electronic and computer systems equipment.

The program will introduce you to basic electrical concepts such as AC/DC circuits, Ohm’s Law, semiconductor devices, digital circuits, and microcontrollers. These are the basic building blocks of electrical devices in use today. In addition, the program also covers computer hardware which can prepare you for CompTIA’s A+ certification.

Students may enroll in ELT 101 and declare a major in Electronics and Computer Technology during their first semester. Those who have had previous college credits, work experience or military experience in electronics should contact the chairperson before declaring a major.

Some of your classes may have minimum technology requirements. If you need help with computer access, you can reach out to the Help Desk to request to borrow equipment or contact your professor prior to class.

Each certificate has it's own learning outcomes; browse the Career Programs and Pathways page to find the program you are interested in, the certificates available for the program, and the learning outcomes for the certificate.
