Oakton assists employees in expanding their educational options and opportunities. Every employee has a budget for professional development to enhance their skills and education. After one year of employment, employees will be eligible for tuition reimbursement for credit-bearing programs of study at a college or university.
Employees, their children and their spouse/domestic partner may enroll in credit courses offered by the College at no tuition charge (tuition is waived) and have associated fees(s) waived according to a schedule.

Oakton College has one perk that you can rarely find anywhere else today, and that’s a pension, as well as other supplemental retirement plans. If eligible, most Oakton Employees automatically participate in the State Universities Retirement System (SURS). Individuals that have reciprocal service with other Illinois public retirement systems receive service credit (for more information contact hr@oakton.edu). Oakton Employees also have additional retirement savings options: Deferred compensation plans in the form of 403(b) and 457 plans are available.
The Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAWA) allows workers to earn up to 40 hours of paid leave from work each year. Workers can use paid leave for any reason and employers may not require workers to provide a basis for their time off request. Workers earn one (1) hour of paid leave for every 40 hours they work. If an employer has an existing policy, certain exceptions may apply. There are certain categories of workers that are not subject to the law.
